چکیده

This paper introduces a multi-agent belief revision algorithm based on belief networks. The algorithm utilizes knowledge about reliability or trustworthiness of information sources to generate the most probable perspective of the system. Incorporating reliability information into belief revision mechanisms is essential for agents in real world multi-agent systems where information sources with various levels of reliability are present. Modeling the quality of incoming information is useful regardless of the level and type of security in such systems. Equipped with the proposed algorithm, an agent is capable of (1) evaluating incoming information and generating a consistent knowledge base to reason on, and (2) avoiding fraudulent information from unreliable or deceptive information sources. The performance (frequency response and correctness) of the proposed algorithm is analyzed in terms of delay time, maximum overshoot, and steady-state error.

Distributed Knowledge Elicitation through the Dempster-Shafer theory of Evidence: a Simulation Study

This paper reports the results of an experiment carried on MASSIM, a specific multi-agent simulation testbed. There are two files, one containing true propositions and the other containing their correspective negations. Five agents in turn access one of these files. Each agent has a “capacity” that will be used as the frequency with which the agent accesses the file with the correct knowledge. ...

Belief Revision and Trust

Belief revision is the process in which an agent incorporates a new piece of information together with a pre-existing set of beliefs. When the new information comes in the form of a report from another agent, then it is clear that we must first determine whether or not that agent should be trusted. In this paper, we provide a formal approach to modeling trust as a pre-processing step before bel...

Belief Revision Process Based on Trust: Agents Evaluating Reputation of Information Sources

In this paper, we propose a multi-agent belief revision algorithm that utilizes knowledge about reliability or trustworthiness (reputation) of information sources. Incorporating reliability information into belief revision mechanisms is essential for agents in real world multi-agent systems. This research assumes the global truth is not available to individual agents and agents only maintain a ...

Trust as a Precursor to Belief Revision

Belief revision is concerned with incorporating new information into a pre-existing set of beliefs. When the new information comes from another agent, we must first determine if that agent should be trusted. In this paper, we define trust as a pre-processing step before revision. We emphasize that trust in an agent is often restricted to a particular domain of expertise. We demonstrate that thi...
